Professional drum construction workshops.

Rich Spirit has been making drums for Eleven years and has been presenting workshops for over nine. He has lovingly refined his training so that any one is able to complete a high quality Ashiko Drum of their own.

The making of a drum includes hands on craft skills, including knot tying, use of wood working tools, heading the drum, and achieving a quality sound from your drum. All tools and materials will be provided with the exception of the wrap, all you need to do is show up and be prepared to experience the creation of your brilliant drum. Don't wear your finery as you will be amidst wood chips and glue, and be sure to bring your strength as once we are ready to tune, you will need your vigor to tighten the drum. If there is an issue with a physical disability, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate you. The entire workshop will develop your love for drumming as well as your appreciation for the drum you build.

  • This is to indicate you can get a 20" cedar kit for 55 and a 24" Cedar kit for 85 and a 30"Cedar kit for 120. To change to another wood add the appropriate amount to this. The new tuning system allowes one to easily tune their drum any time with a 7/16" wrench and leaves lots of space on the drum for designs which can be done with carving tools, wood burners and or inlay work. I am making a pad for these drums that you will be able to get for 25.00 that covers the turnbuckles and afords a comfortable sitting spot while playing.
